Shiloh UM Church awards three scholarships

Three Washington County students have been named the recipients of the Mabel R. Widdows Scholarship through Shiloh United Methodist Church.

The students are:

Ryan Keller is a senior and a kinesiology major at University of Maryland, College Park. He graduated with honors from Smithsburg High School in 2007, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and co-captain of the soccer team.

After graduation, Ryan looks forward to pursuing further education toward a career in physical therapy.

Amber Keck is a sophomore at Penn State in State College, Pa. She is majoring in statistics. She attended Penn State Mont Alto her freshman year, where she attained dean’s-list honors.

Amber is a 2009 graduate of Clear Spring High School, where she was co-valedictorian and maintained a 4.39 grade-point average.

Christopher Taylor is a freshman at Hagerstown Community College, where he was on the dean’s list his first semester. He plans to major in history.

He is a 2010 Smithsburg High School graduate where he was a member of the National Honor Society.  Chris plays in the jazz band at HCC.

Through the generosity of Widdows and in memory of her daughter, Katherine R. Widdows, Shiloh UM Church offers scholarships for post-secondary education.

Through an endowment left in trust to the church on June 6, 2007, the church offers scholarships to students enrolled in high school as of that date and beyond.

Shiloh awarded $9,500 among three students for the 2010-11 school year. The students are members of Shiloh UM Church.
