A woman was shot in the hand with a 12-gauge shotgun in a Saturday night incident that appeared to be accidental, a Hagerstown Police Department spokesman said Sunday night.
Police were not releasing the woman’s name.
Police responded to 215 Alexander St. around 9:50 p.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call of shots fired inside a residence, according to a news release issued Sunday morning.
Alexander Street is in Hagerstown’s West End, between Winter Street and West Side Avenue.
The firearm discharged on the second floor, hitting the woman on the first floor, police said. A man had moved the firearm upstairs to secure it because of children visiting the home, police said.
It is believed the man accidentally pulled the trigger on the shotgun, said Sgt. Wayne Zimmerer.
A woman, who was a roommate of the man, was taken to Meritus Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
