MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Theodore “Ted” Hare, 87, of Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, surrounded by his family at City Hospital.

Born June 9, 1923 in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Grace Fauver Hare.

Ted was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Anna Catherine Albright Hare.

He was retired from the Chessie System as a conductor with the railroad for over 43 years. He was a member of the Railroad Retirees.

He was a lifetime member of Rosemont Grace Brethren Church.

He was a member of the Robert White Lodge AF&AM.  

Ted loved to play music and was actively involved with the Lazy River Band and Country Melody Band. He and his musical friends would practice and fellowship and would play for the Senior Center and nursing homes.

He had a passion for the Martinsburg Rescue Mission and other local charities.

Throughout his life, Ted enjoyed many hobbies, including baseball, golf, hunting and watching football.

Ted is survived by one son, Richard Hare and wife, Pat, of Williamsport; five daughters, Linda Miller and husband, Trammell, of Martinsburg, Judi Custer and husband, Doug, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Theoda Becker and husband, Eddie, and Sheila Shergy and husband, Dan, all of Martinsburg, and Teresa Stout and husband, Mike, of Selinsgrove, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Lenwood Albright; one sister-in-law, Joan Shambaugh; a number of nieces and nephews; a friend, Doris Arrington; and his faithful beagle, “Max.”

Ted was the last of his immediate family.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl Baker officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
