CLEAR SPRING, Md. — John Franklin Mills Jr., 69, of Clear Spring, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born January 17, 1942, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late John Franklin Mills Sr. and Susanna Elizabeth "Drury" Mills.

He was a truck driver for Licking Creek Paving Co. of Big Pool, Md.  

He was a member of the Mercersburg American Legion Post 517.  

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Margaret Lou "Bigler" Mills of Clear Spring; three daughters, Bonnie Frazier and husband, David, and Beverly Pomfrey and husband, Anthony, both of Clear Spring, and Barbara Abracht and husband, Clyde, of Williamsport; two sons, John Mills III and wife, Christina, of Hagerstown, and James Mills and wife, Corina, of Big Pool; three sisters, Lorraine Bigler of Clear Spring, Catherine Perkins and Betty Guyer, both of Hagerstown; a brother, Franklin Mills of Hagerstown; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Sword; two brothers, Lewis Mills and James Mills; and two grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring.  The Rev. Dennis Whitmore will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Williamsport.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after 11 a.m.
