The next Teen Idol to be crowned

The Maryland Theatre and After Five Productions are looking for the next Teen Idol.

The contest is open to all ages 15 to 19. The grand prize is $1,000 and second place is $500.

Auditions will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Valley Mall in front of the Bon-Ton from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Port City Java in Long Meadow Shopping Center from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The final showcase will be held at The Maryland Theatre on Saturday, March 26, at 7 p.m.

Diabetes support group to meet Wednesday, Feb. 9

The diabetes support group at Potomac Towers will meet Wednesday, Feb. 9, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the first-floor community room.

Items to be discussed will be Medicare benefits for diabetes with the presentation by the Washington County Commission on Aging.

The support group is open to any individual living at Potomac Towers or anyone in the community. The support group is set up to provide a forum for educating individuals with diabetes.

West Hagerstown Lions Club news

West Hagerstown Lions Club lost Lowell Jackman Oct. 26. Lowell was a devoted Lion and always willing to serve. The club misses this caring and witty man.

During the Christmas holidays, the ladies sold their crafts at various shows, the club rang The Salvation Army bell and held their pancake breakfast with Santa. The club also shared Christmas dinner with Longmeadow Lions Club and donated many toys to The Salvation Army.

In January, the West Hagerstown Lions Club had another successful ham sandwich sale.

On Feb. 7, the club will feed the residents at the REACH cold weather shelter.

On Feb. 16, the club will spend an evening playing bingo and serving refreshments with the residents at Walnut Towers.

On April 16, the club will hold a spaghetti dinner at Girls Inc.

Friday — Cards/dominoes, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; "Walk Away the Pounds," 11 a.m. to noon; strength training, 11:30 a.m.  to 12:30 p.m.; chair yoga, 1 to 2 p.m.

Monday, Feb.  7 — Line dancing, 10 to11 a.m.; Salsa dancing, 11 to 11:30 a.m.; cards/dominoes, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; "Walk Away the Pounds," 11 a.m. to noon; strength training, 1 to 2 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 8 — "Walk Your Belly Flat," 10 to 11 a.m.; computer instruction, 10 a.m. to noon; cards/dominoes, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Spanish conversation, 11 a.m. to noon; "Walk Your Belly Flat," 1 to 2 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 9 — Line dancing, 10 to 11 a.m.; group piano (fees apply), 10 a.m. to noon; cards/dominoes, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; "Walk Away the Pounds, 11 a.m. to noon; chair yoga, 1 to 2 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 10 — Gym closes at 11 a.m.; step aerobics, 10 to 11 a.m.; computer instruction, 10 a.m. to noon; cards/dominoes, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; "Walk Your Belly Flat," 1 to 2 p.m.

 The gym at the center is open from 9 to 10  a.m. each day for walking. Free coffee, tea, and iced water will be available to all seniors.

The center is at 626 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown. It is open to all seniors ages 55 and older.
