MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Charles W. Amsley, 81, passed into eternal life while at his home on Jan. 30, 2011, surrounded by his family.  

He was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Mercersburg, Pa., to Theodore and Helen (Mummert) Amsley.
He was married to Betty (Ramsey) Amsley on Dec. 13, 1952. They lived in Mercersburg, where they resided for 54 years prior to moving to Menno Village in October 2010.
He attended Hustontown Church of God for 40 years, where he served as superintendent and worship leader. He most recently attended and was a member at Greencastle Church of God for 14 years.

He was employed as a contracting officer at Letterkenny Army Depot and retired in 1987 as chief of reutilization and marketing, Defense Logistics Agency.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He spent one year in Guam and was discharged at the rank of staff sergeant.

He was an avid sports fan, gardener, and above all, loved being with his family.       

Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty R. Amsley, Chambersburg, Pa.; and their three daughters,  Teresa (wife of Jack Parr) Amsley of Chambersburg, Brenda (wife of Herm) Mellott of Hagerstown, Md., and Wanita (wife of Randy) Shoemaker of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Kimeka (fiancee of Steven Jewell) Wilson, Asohnn Amsley, Ben and Chuck Mellott, Shalynn (wife of Bryan) Stough, and Brittany Strait; two great- grandchildren, Brianna “Breezi” and Willow Amsley, with a third great-grandchild, Baby Stough, on the way; also a brother, Clarence Amsley; and two sisters, Gladys Hawbaker and Margaret Bowers.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore E. and Helen L. Amsley; a sister, Delores Jean Shannon; and two brothers, Carl E. Amsley and Theodore Amsley II.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Greencastle Church of God.  

The family will receive friends and family Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg. The Rev. Floyd Myers will be officiating.

 Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, will be handling the arrangements.
