HANCOCK — Mayor Daniel Murphy and two members of the Hancock Town Council retained their seats in a municipal election Monday.

Just 70 of the town's 1,112 registered voters turned out for the election, in which Murphy and Councilmen Sinclair Hamilton and Timothy Smith were unopposed in their re-election bids, said Virginia Stanley, the town's account clerk.

Murphy received 66 votes to win his eighth two-year term, Stanley said. Hamilton and Smith, who were both running for a second four-year term, received 60 and 61 votes, respectively, she said.

No write-in ballots were cast, Stanley said.

Murphy, Hamilton and Smith are scheduled to be sworn in on Monday, Feb. 14, Stanley said.

The terms of Councilmen Dennis Hudson and Nigel Dardar  expire in 2013.
