CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A bail hearing scheduled Tuesday for a man charged with criminal homicide has been continued until mid-February.

The hearing for Jerry D. Rowe has been rescheduled for Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.

Rowe is charged with fatally shooting his son, Nathaniel, 27, in the torso at their home at 925 Duncan Ave., near the Chambersburg Hospital in October.

According to court documents filed in the case, Nathaniel Rowe was found lying on the ground outside the Duncan Ave. home without a pulse.

In an affidavit of probable cause, police said they interviewed Jerry Rowe after taking him into custody.

Police allege Jerry Rowe told them he and his son were involved in a verbal argument when Nathaniel Rowe shoved his mother.

Jerry D. Rowe said he retrieved a loaded, 9 mm semiautomatic handgun from under his mattress and confronted his son, police allege in the affidavit.

Police said several people were arguing in the front yard of the home when they arrived. Police said they saw Jerry D. Rowe on the front porch, holding a handgun to his head and threatening suicide.

Other officers arrived and evacuated other family members from the back door, the affidavit states.

Nathaniel Rowe was taken to Chambersburg Hospital and pronounced dead, according to the affidavit.
