Bowl for a Cure tournament set for Feb. 27 at Southside Bowl

January 29, 2011

The second annual Bowl for a Cure bowling event, hosted by Southside 48 Bowling League, will be Sunday, Feb. 27, at Southside Bowl on Virginia Avenue.

Last year's event raised $6,599.42 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

A few changes have been made this year. It will be a one-day event, instead of two. Duckpin bowlers will be included, as will 10-pin bowlers. In addition to door prizes and raffles, the event will include a silent auction of items donated by local businesses.

This year, bowlers hope to raise more than $15,000 to contribute to Bowl for the Cure, a year-round fundraising and awareness effort organized by the United States Bowling Congress in support of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure effort.

The entry fee for each bowler is $30, which includes bowling, shoe rental, a T-shirt and chances to win door prizes.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, the inaugural Bowl for the Cure Benefit Dance will be held at the Williamsport American Legion. Music will be provided by the band Spectrum.

Tickets cost $25 for individuals and $40 per couple, which includes dinner. Tickets are available at the Williamsport Legion and at Valley Studio, 11000 Bower Ave.

There also will be door prizes and raffles.
