City of Hagerstown trash collection

The large amount of snow has significantly hampered the collection of trash and recycling.

Residents of the City of Hagerstown can assist with the collection by doing the following:

  • Safety of the collection workers is the top priority. You can help by placing trash (on your normal set out day) so it can be accessed from the street and not on the house-side of the snow piles.
  • Retrieve your trash and recycling that is uncollected and set it out for your next  normal collection day.
  • Use bags instead of cans.  Cans have to be returned to the sidewalk areas doubling the collection time.

If you have any questions, please contact the Engineering Division at 301-739-8577, extension 125 or 106, or visit

Washington County Snow Emergency Plan lifted

The Maryland State Police, Hagerstown Barrack reports that the Snow Emergency Plan for Washington County was lifted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday Thanks to the hard work of highway crews, conditions on state designated snow emergency routes have greatly improved and most major routes are clear.  However, this does not mean that all roads are completely clear of snow or ice.

Many county and municipal roads that are not part of the state Snow Emergency Plan system are still snow or ice covered.  Even some state maintained routes may have slippery areas. Continue to drive cautiously, and be especially careful at exit ramps, intersections, and bridges, and when turning from state or U.S. routes onto other roads.  Travel on non-state maintained routes should be minimized to allow county and municipal road crews to continue their job of clearing those roads.  Be alert for snow plows and other equipment and allow them room to work.

Frederick County Government

Frederick County Government employees will operate under the liberal leave policy Thursday, Jan. 27.  Essential employees must report on time and on schedule.

The Frederick Board of County Commissioners will start their administrative business meeting today at 11 a.m. instead of 10 a.m.

Frederick County courts

Frederick County (Md.) Circuit and District Courts are closed Thursday due to inclement weather.

City of Frederick

Due to the recent snow event, the Department of Public Works Sanitation Department was unable to complete trash collection Thursday morning. Residents who did not have their trash collected are asked to wait  until the next regularly scheduled collection day to put their trash out.

Residents and businesses that have storm intake drains in front of their property are asked to keep the drain clear of snow.  This will keep drains from backing up thus causing excess water on streets.

City Hall remained without power at 9:30 a.m. Employees are operating under the Liberal Leave policy.  Employees at City Hall are asked to contact their supervisor before reporting to work.

Borough of Waynesboro

The snow emergency plan was lifted at 6 a.m. Thursday. Regular parking regulations are in effect.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre
