Mr. William "Whip" Franklin Wilson Sr., 65, of Hagerstown, Md., died on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at The Golden Living Center in Frederick, after a short illness.

He was the husband for 47 years of Mrs. Barbara Ellen (Ketterman) Wilson. Born on April 16, 1945, in Bartholows, Md., he was the son of the late Ira T. and Myrtle Lee (Gue) Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was employed by the state of Maryland and worked at the National Guard Armory in Frederick until his retirement. He served in the Maryland National Guard in Company A, First Battalion, 115th Infantry, retiring as a sergeant 1st class, or E7, after 26 years of service.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Vickie Jean Hanshew and husband, William of Hagerstown, Theresa Lynn Baugher and husband, Mark of Woodsboro, and William "Billy" Wilson Jr. of Hagerstown; five grandsons, Timothy "Tigger" Baugher, Garet Hanshew, Steven Baugher, Matt Baugher and SA Tyler Hanshew. He is also survived by his two brothers, Donald Wilson of Mount Airy and Paul Wilson of Union Bridge and five sisters, Mary Jane Briggs, Thelma Bruchey and Mazie Specht of Frederick, Md., Joanne Mills of Woodsboro, and Betty Lou Merck of Georgia. Mr. Wilson is preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie Sier, Beatrice Sier and infant Dorothy and two brothers, Robert Wilson and Charles Thomas Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at the Michael Cresap National Guard Armory at 8501 Baltimore Road, (Md. 144) Frederick on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Timothy S. May Sr. will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702.
