Local church hosts Cancer Support Group

Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., hosts a cancer support group on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The meetings are open to anyone whose life has been touched by cancer.

Transition night is set

All eighth-grade students planning to attend Williamsport High School next school year and their parents are encouraged to attend ninth grade transition night at the WHS auditorium on Wednesday, Feb. 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Learn about graduation requirements, completer programs, Washington County Public School academies, Technical High School offerings, Science Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program, academic opportunities, the arts, athletic team sign-ups, and more.

Community forum planned

A community forum will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3, at Town Hall to discuss the latest environmental impacts from the R. Paul Smith Power Plant. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be conducted by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Environmental Integrity Project, Sierra Club and Clean Water Action.

The public is invited to attend.

Motorcycle club to hold food drive

The Leathernecks Motorcycle Club is conducting a food drive to benefit the Williamsport Food Bank. They are collecting and delivering nonperishable food items until March 19.

Food items may be dropped off at Williamsport American Legion Post 202, the Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84, and Harley Davidson of Williamsport at 10210 Governor Lane Blvd.

Clothes of Hope schedule for February

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing. It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, and 17, Saturday, Feb. 5, and Monday, Feb. 14. It will be open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7 and 21, and Thursday, Feb 10.

The Clothes of Hope is not accepting any more clothing donations until April 30.

There is no charge for the clothing. Monetary donations are appreciated. If Washington County schools are closed for inclement weather, the Clothes of Hope will also be closed.
