Valley Art Association to host guest speaker

Valley Art Association will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Mansion House Art Center, 501 Highland Way in Hagerstown’s City Park.

Following a short business meeting and refreshments, William Cochran will speak and show slides about the how-to’s of painting in trompe l’oeil style (dimensional paintings that fool the eye). He is a well-known muralist, sculptor and designer from Frederick, Md.

Umpire clinic planned in March

Dennis Hockensmith and Dave Grams will hold a Little League rules and umpire clinic each Tuesday in February, starting Feb. 1, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ on Leitersburg Pike. Hockensmith and Grams will also hold a clinic March 1 for women only if there is enough interest.

Winter yard sale

An indoor yard sale will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fort Ritchie. There are still tables left to rent for $15.

South High Athletic Boosters to meet

The South High Athletic Boosters will meet Monday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in the South High media center.

The club is looking for new members and officers.

Discovery Station

The Saturday Plus program, which was to be held Saturday, has been rescheduled for this Saturday. Jerry Spessard will present “The Hagerstown Almanack, Its Origin and Scientific Forecasting” at 2 p.m. at Discovery Station.
