Three charged with drug possession after traffic stop

FREDERICK, Md. — Two Berkeley Springs, W.Va., adults and a juvenile were charged with drug possession after a traffic stop Saturday on Interstate 70, Maryland State Police said.

A 2005 Toyota Scion was stopped at 12:15 p.m. for a traffic violation, police said. A trooper requested a police dog to scan the vehicle and it detected narcotics, police said.

The driver, Brian Vongostn, 20, address unavailable, was charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, police said. Passenger Earl Fleegle, 23, address unavailable, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.

The juvenile was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, and was released to a parent, police said.

Kerosene heater causes mobile home fire in St. Thomas

ST. THOMAS, Pa. — A portable kerosene heater used to thaw frozen pipes was the cause of a mobile home fire Saturday night, St. Thomas Assistant Fire Chief Shane Klouser said.

The fire in the 1600 block of Chamberlayne Drive in the Rolling Acres Mobile Home Park was called in at 6:38 p.m., Klouser said. There was fire beneath the mobile home that was quickly brought under control, he said.

"I think it will be livable with some work," Klouser said of the home.

The Red Cross was notified to provide emergency assistance to the woman who lived there, he said.

No one was injured, Klouser said.

Firefighters from Marion, Mercersburg, Franklin Fire Co. in Chambersburg and the Chambersburg Fire Department assisted on the fire, Klouser said. The last units left the scene at about 8:30 p.m., he said.
