DOWNSVILLE — Gerald Downs Cavanaugh, 73, of Downsville, Md., passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at his home.

Born July 23, 1937, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Earl and Anna Elizabeth Downs Cavanaugh.

He was a 1955 graduate of Williamsport High School.

He was a self-employed farmer, owner of Kavanglen Farms.

He attended Valley Grace Brethren of Halfway, Md., and Maranatha Brethren, Hagerstown, Md.

He was a 55-year member of the Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Association. He was past president and vice president of the Washington County FFA and the Maryland State FFA. He won the American Farmer Award. He also served on the board of Heritage Academy and was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include wife, Gloria D. Rock Cavanaugh, to whom he was married for 54 years, of Downsville; daughter, Shawna K. Corbett and her husband Frank, of Williamsport, Md.; son, Gerald David Cavanaugh of Fairplay, Md.; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose Corbett of Williamsport; and granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Corbett of Williamsport.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at 6 p.m., with the Rev. Alan N. Clingan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Tuesday until 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Tuesday for the convenience of family and friends. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
