Students honored

The following student were named Good Citizens of the month at Hickory Elementary School:

Carter Younger, Esmerelda Rodriguez-Shipp, Mark Obitts, Noah Cauffman, Thomas Griffin, Adriana Menjivar, Justin Ahmadian, Patynce Shirley, Leonard McNair, Delaney Purdham, Daylen Newton, Jeanrie Archiega, Molly Martz, Sarah Duffy, Amaya Pettner and Amyla Carey.

Students were honored with a celebration assembly Dec. 20.

Donations accepted

Hickory Elementary School has been participating in a drive to collect items for the REACH Cold Weather Shelter and are still in need of items. Those who live in the Halfway area and would like to contribute to this cause may do so by dropping donations off at the school. Donations will be accepted through Jan. 31.

Soccer registration

Hagerstown Area Youth Soccer League will host registration for the upcoming 2011 spring season at Valley Mall on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the King Jewelers wing of the mall. Registration is open to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 15.

Softball league

The Washington County Girls Softball League is gearing up for the 2011 season. The league will hold registration on Saturdays, Feb. 5 and 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 20, from noon to 5 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods.

The league will also be at Extra Innings on Friday, Feb. 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, Feb. 12 and 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 27, from noon to 5 p.m.
