Janice Louise Snavely Porter, 79, of 19739 Tranquility Circle, Hagerstown Md., moved from this life to the next, Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at the Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born Thursday, April 23, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry Schlosser Snavely and the late Mary Louise Poffenberger Snavely.
She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1949. She was part owner and president of Busy Bee Card and Craft Shop for 19 years. She was an active lifelong member of First Christian Church, where she was an elder. She also worked with the children in nursery and kindergarten departments. She was a member and past president of the Women’s Club and Zonta Club.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Jermain Porter; daughter, Debra Swain, and two sons, Robert Porter and Edward Porter all of Hagerstown; brother, Tom Edward Snavely of Alexandria, Va.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry S. and Richard F. Snavely.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at 11 a.m., from the First Christian Church, with Pastor Ben Manning officiating. A time of remembrance and fellowship will follow immediately after the service.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
