KEEDYSVILLE — Robert J. Thomas Sr., born Nov. 13, 1926, in Keedysville, Md., died Jan. 12, 2011, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was the son of Raymond H. and Maude Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lorraine Thomas.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division and 104th Timberwolf Division, Night Fighters in the European Theater, as well as the Pacific Theater, Okinawa and Korea 1945.

He was retired from Heritage Components and was also employed by Fairchild, Mack Trucks, Victor Products, and as a troubleshooter for McDonald’s.

He was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Keedysville.

He was a life member of VFW Post 1936 and a member of Funkstown American Legion Post 21.

He is survived by a very special and dear friend, Shirley Deau; six daughters, Debbie Clifford and husband, Bill, Sharon Frye and husband, Randy, Roberta Borman and husband, Mike, Carolyn Burrell, Lori Wiley and close friend, Logan Knode, and Dorreen Kline and husband, Rick; two sons, Robert J. Thomas Jr. and special friend, Kendra Forcino, and Raymond E. Thomas and wife, Lori; 22 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorindia L. Thomas; one sister, Dottie Ellis; and two brothers, Raymond Thomas and Merle Thomas.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m.
