Driver killed in pickup truck crash in Franklin County

January 13, 2011

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — A Greencastle, Pa., man was killed Wednesday night when a pickup truck crashed into a utility pole along Pa. 75 (Fort Loudon Road) south of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Lloyd William Wolfe, 55, no address given, was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey Conner.

Conner said in a news release that Wolfe's cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.

At about 10:05 p.m., a pickup truck traveling south on the 11000 block of Fort Loudon Road went off the southern berm of the road and struck a snow drift, according to the state police and Conner's releases.

Wolfe overcorrected and the truck went back onto the roadway, spun counterclockwise 180 degrees and struck a utility pole on the northern side of the road, police said.

The truck then caught fire, police said.

Wolfe was not wearing a seat belt, Conner said in his news release.
