Mary Antionette Zastocki Schmidt Smithers, 83, of Cherry Tree Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born in New Brunswick, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Zastocki.
She was a graduate of East Brunswick High School, Class of 1944.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Hagerstown.
She was employed as the only woman supervisor of Mack Trucks for over 42 years, from 1942 to 1986.
She was a member of the following organizations: Catholic Daughters of America, Sodality, Mack Management, Merri-Macks, Mack Golden Bulldogs, Auxiliary of the American Legion and American Red Cross. She was the first woman president of the Mack Management Club and one of the founders of the Merri-Macks.
She is survived by her loving family: Husband Paul L. Smithers, whom she married in February 1990; sister Helen Smolsky, Linden, N.J.; many nieces and nephews; one great-great-niece; one great-great-nephew; and special friend and godchild, Rosemary J. Martz, Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul J. Schmidt; sister, Stella G. Rinaldi, New Brunswick, N.J.; brother Matthew Zastocki, East Brunswick, N.J.; and brother Louis J. Zastocki, Millstone, N.J.
Mary loved fishing, and the Florida Keys were her second home. She fished many times with the very best, and has many trophies and awards to prove it.
The wake will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Krowick McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 E. St. Georges Ave., Linden, N.J. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Hedwig’s Roman Catholic Church, 600 Myrtle St., Elizabeth, N.J.
