Williamsport Town Council members to back resolution calling for restoration of state funding

January 11, 2011

Williamsport Town Council members agreed Monday night to support a Maryland Municipal League resolution calling for the state to restore all state funding for municipalities, including state highway-user revenue. Williamsport used to receive $144,000 in state highway-user revenue, but the amount was reduced to $11,000, town officials said during the council meeting Monday night. The amount recently was reduced by another $6,000, town officials said. "It's getting tighter, tighter and tighter," said Mayor James G. McCleaf II. The resolution was passed as the Maryland General Assembly prepares to convene in Annapolis today.
