Lawmakers comment on shooting

January 11, 2011

Prepared comments from other congressional members regarding Saturday’s shooting in Arizona:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, and all of the innocent victims of this unspeakable and horrific tragedy. Gayle and I offer our heartfelt sympathies and pray for comfort to the families of all those killed and injured.”
— U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.

“Sharon and I were shocked and saddened to learn of today’s shooting in Arizona. This senseless act violates who we are as Americans, and I know that my fellow West Virginians mourn this tragedy. We are praying for all those who were victims of this terrible violence — Congresswoman Giffords, U.S. District Court Judge John Roll, and so many other innocent people.
May they and their families find some comfort in the support and faith of our nation.”
— U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Gabrielle Giffords, her family and the families of everyone affected by the senseless act of violence perpetrated in Tucson today.
A disgusting and reprehensible act such as this is completely unacceptable in a civil society.
I pray for the swift recovery of everyone involved, as well as for the swift prosecution of the person or persons responsible for the attack.”
— U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa.
