Hawks men win by 1, women lose by 1

MEN’S BASKETBALL

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Dameatric Scott scored 26 points to lead Hagerstown Community College to a 72-71 victory over Rockville on Saturday in the Maryland JuCo Conference.

Devin Miller added 16 points for the Hawks, who only had 12 turnovers.

Ohio Valley 85, Shepherd 80

VIENNA, W.Va. — Shepherd University had five players in double figures, but it wasn’t enough as Kendall Allison had 18 points and Jordan Brooks added 16 to lead Ohio Valley (4-6, 4-4) to a West Virginia Conference victory.

Chad Moore led the Rams (5-7, 2-6) with 18 points, making 7-of-11 field goals. Marcus Pilgrim had 14 points, Dave Karlson had 12 and Brantley Osborne and Sidney McCray each added 11.



WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Rockville 71, HCC 70

ROCKVILLE — Hagerstown Community College’s rally from a 31-20 halftime deficit fell just short in a loss to Rockville in the Maryland JuCo Conference.

Turquoia Johnson had 18 points and 18 rebounds, and Alessandra Flores added 17 points for the Hawks (10-3, 4-2), who forced 32 turnovers. Tiarra Rogers led HCC with five steals to go with her nine points and three assists.

Ohio Valley 78, Shepherd 62

VIENNA, W.Va. — Denae Beavers scored 21 points and Amber Avery added 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Ohio Valley (8-3, 5-3) past Shepherd University in the West Virginia Conference.

The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Rams (8-4, 6-2). Senior guard Jerica Hewett, a Boonsboro graduate, led Shepherd with 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Emily Daniel added 10 points.



BOYS BASKETBALL

Spalding 68, Goretti 45

SEVERN, Md. — St. Maria Goretti led Archbishop Spalding by one at halftime, but faded down the stretch in a Baltimore Catholic League loss.

The Gaels (6-10, 0-5) managed only 16 points in the second half and turned the ball over 26 times. Dylan Leazier led Goretti with 14 points.

Heritage Academy 50, Queen Anne 42

FREDERICK, Md. — Troy Cosner had 18 points and six rebounds to lead Heritage Academy to a first-round win over Queen Anne (3-2) at the Oriole Classic on Friday.

Aaron Clark had a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists, Ben Cosner had 12 points, Bryce Nigh had five steals and Kyle Smith hit two 3-pointers and had five rebounds for the Eagles (6-2).



GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bishop Walsh 60, Hancock 28

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Bishop Walsh outscored Hancock in all four quarters for a decisive win.

Alisa Shives led Hancock (3-6) with eight points, including two 3-pointers. Kelly Edgerton added six points, and Lyndsay Himes had eight rebounds and three assists.

JV: Bishop Walsh, 25-9 (H: Megan Dain 3).
