The Washington County Recreation Department will host its inaugural Superhero Day Party Saturday, Jan. 15, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Hagerstown Community College’s ARCC.

Those 9 years old and younger and their families are invited to don the costume of their favorite superhero and participate in themed activities and games. Participants will take pleasure in balloons, posing for photos with superheroes, spending tokens in the bat cave, getting temporary superhero tattoos and watching a magic show.

Participants will also have an opportunity to swoosh around in the inflatable bounce, spider their way through the giant web and take home party favors.

In addition, the little superheroes will be powered by snacks and drinks. Costumes are encouraged and will be showcased in a parade of superheroes at 3:20 p.m.

Zumba classes to start this month
Zumba classes will be offered for the winter session from Tuesday, Jan. 11 and Wednesday, Jan. 12, for 15 weeks, ending Tuesday, April 19, and Wednesday, April 20.

The session will break the weeks of April 25 and May 2. Classes will be held at St. Mark’s Parish Hall, 18313 Lappans Road in Boonsboro (note: the Parish Hall is in use Tuesday, March 8 (Shrove Tuesday), and Wednesday, March 9 (Ash Wednesday). Classes are canceled for Holy Week. Two back-to-back (5:30 and 6:45 p.m.) make-up classes will be scheduled on two consecutive Monday evenings during the session and dates will be announced at class and through e-mail.

The session will not run beyond April 20. If you have any questions on whether the hall is closed due to weather conditions, call St. Mark’s rectory. There will be a message on the machine if the hall is closed. The program will use the “school closing” system to monitor whether classes will be held or not. If there is a two-hour delay, classes will be held. If schools are closed, there will be no class.

There is no baby-sitting service offered.

With the construction and addition of the new community hall, there might be a new parking pattern for the January classes.

Participants can register before the end of the fall session, or by mail before Jan. 10.

For more information, call Anita at 301-393-0884 or 240-675-5061.
