Catoctin hands Leopards first loss

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SMITHSBURG — Smithsburg’s rally from a 15-point deficit fell just short Tuesday as the Leopards suffered their first loss of the season, 40-39 to Catoctin in an MVAL Antietam game.

The Leopards (6-1, 2-1) outscored Catoctin 21-7 in the fourth quarter. Katie Sprecher led Smithsburg with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Apryl Lee had six points and six rebounds, while Sara Rishell had seven points and six rebounds.

Kelsey Phelan led Catoctin (6-1, 2-0) with 12 points, including three 3-pointers.

BOONSBORO — Iman Scott scored 16 points to lead North Hagerstown to an MVAL Antietam win over Boonsboro.

The Hubs (4-2, 4-0) forced 33 Boonsboro turnovers. Ali Forrest and Quielanna Gantt each had nine points and Tia Kline added eight.

Ashley Smothers had 10 points and five rebounds to lead Boonsboro (5-4, 2-2).

Jessica Gaylor had 17 points and four steals and Callie Butts had 11 points, four steals and six blocks as Heritage Academy defeated Faith Christian to stay unbeaten in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference.

Kathleen Kidd added nine points, four steals and seven assists for the Eagles (7-0, 5-0).

Nicole Deneseus led Faith (7-2, 2-2) with 19 points and 18 rebounds, and Jackie Solenberger added eight points.

Victoria Broadwater had 12 points, six steals and four assists, Kelsey Koontz had 14 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks and Katy Carroll had five points, two assists and three steals for the Knights (5-4, 3-2).

N. Bedford 46, McConnellsburg 26

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. — Sarah Pollock scored 11 points for McConnellsburg (3-4) in a Sideling Hill League loss to Northern Bedford.

Grace Academy 83, Adams County 21

Tori Aikens had 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and Victoria Broadwater added 14 points, eight steals and six assists to lead the Knights past Adams County Christian on Monday.

Kelsey Koontz had 18 points and Caitlin Cox added 16 points for Grace. Sara Golden had eight rebounds.

CLEAR SPRING — Clear Spring used tenacious defense and a huge second half to overcome a 21-13 first-half deficit and defeat Brunswick in the MVAL Antietam.

The Blazers (5-3, 2-2) exploded for 23 points in the third quarter and 18 points in the fourth. Sam Elwood scored 10 points — including 6 of 7 from the foul line — to go along with four assists and three steals.

Mikey Sensenbaugh scored six points and grabbed five rebounds, while Donald Schilling had five points and six rebounds.
