Peter Henry Lowenhaupt, 87, of 958 A St. Clair St., Hagerstown, Md., passed away on the birthdate of his late wife, Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.

Born Monday, May 14, 1923, in Ridgewood, N.Y., he was the son of the late Peter and Emma Wattron Lowenhaupt. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Doris Edna Lowenhaupt, in 2004.

He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1941 and attended Manhattan College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945.

He was owner and operator of Peter Lowenhaupt Electric in Queens, N.Y., until 1980, then moved to Houston, Texas, where he continued as a electrician. Later, he moved to Hagerstown, where he continued working as a electrician and later retired from Hagerstown Trust Co. after 10 years. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, and was a member of The American Legion and VFW Post 1936.

He is survived by six sons, James H. Lowenhaupt of Evansville, Ind., Thomas J. Lowenhaupt of New York City, Richard M. Lowenhaupt of Austin, Texas, Robert C. Lowenhaupt of Brandon, Fla., John P. Lowenhaupt of Williamsburg, Va., and William J. Lowenhaupt of Hagerstown, Md; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Services will be Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. George A. Limmer officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 6.

Private interment will follow at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.
