Elizabeth "Libby" Adams Beyard, 92, of 1127 Woodland Way in Hagerstown, Md., died peacefully the morning of Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Homewood at Williamsport, surrounded by her family.

Born Aug. 15, 1918, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Rohrer and Alice Blanche Suman Adams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Romayne McCausland Beyard, in 1969.

She was the owner and director of Woodland Nursery School and later served as head teacher at Robinwood Early Childhood Center, a part of the Washington County Public Schools system. After retirement, she embarked on an adventurous second career as a travel and tour leader, and enjoyed taking many trips and cruises throughout the world with old and new friends.

At the beginning of her career, she also worked at Schindel Rohrer Co. and Potomac Edison in Hagerstown. In mid-career, she went back to school and graduated from Shippensburg University with a B.A. degree in early childhood education, while working full time.

She was an active member of the Hagerstown community and participated in many civic and religious organizations. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church, where she was a singer and soloist in the Chancel Choir, an elder and a member of the Official Board. She also was a member of the Hagerstown Women's Club, the St. Cecilia Choral Arts Society, and the Hagerstown A Capella Choir.   

Most importantly, she was an exceptionally loving and generous mother, grandmother, friend and gentle spirit throughout her life. She is survived by her two sons, Michael D. Beyard of Washington, D.C., and Ernest R. Beyard and his wife, Jacqueline Gillan, of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren, Kristin Beyard of Washington, D.C., and Alexander Beyard of Silver Spring, Md.; nieces and nephews, including Alice Wright of Belle Mead, N.J., Carolyn Ridenour of Gaithersburg, Md., Philip Adams of Hagerstown and Karen Beyard of West Hartford, Conn.; and other beloved family members.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Adams, and a sister-in-law, Margaree Adams.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Nancy Jenkins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church Choir, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742 or to American Cancer Society.
