Superhero day party

Welcome January and the New Year! I’m hoping that 2011 will be an awesome and amazing year.

What’s really cool is that you have a hand in the outcome. Don’t just wait for incredible things to happen. Make them happen. Get involved in your community. Find a way to extend a hand of help through the many organizations that already have programs set up.

Don’t be content for life to happen; mark your calendar and get out there. You would be amazed at what there is to do and what little cost is involved. Also this year, make an effort to let me know of happenings in your home — births, weddings, birthdays and celebrations — and send that information to

Superhero Day party

The Washington County Recreation Department will host its inaugural Superhero Day Party on Saturday, Jan. 15, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Hagerstown Community College’s ARCC.

Those 9 years old and younger and their families are invited to don the costume of their favorite superheroes and participate in themed activities and games. Participants can play with balloons, pose for photos with superheroes, spend tokens in the bat cave, get temporary superhero tattoos and watch a magic show.

Participants also will have an opportunity to swoosh around in an inflatable bounce, spider their way through a giant web and take home party favors.

In addition, little superheroes will be powered by snacks and drinks. Costumes are encouraged and will be showcased in a parade of superheroes at 3:20 p.m.

Registration forms can be found at For additional information, call 240-313-2805.
Everyone must have a ticket to enter. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets cost $5 for those 9 and younger and $2 for those 10 and older.

In case of inclement weather, participants are urged to call the weather hotline for cancellation announcements at 240-313-2811.

Have a great week

It’s a quiet week with the kids heading back to school and routines taking form again. Let me now what’s going on. Make this week productive and pleasant.
