Losses for the after-Christmas meeting totaled 12 1/2 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077.

Charles House and Carol McDougal were the best TOPS losers, while Cindy Ryder and Audrey Smith were the best KOPS losers

Dina Norris won the monthly get-r-done prize.

Charles House won the get-r-done prize for the week.

Patsy Price took the Ha! Ha! prize. The no-no snack is candy.

Donna Blackowitz and Patsy Price presented the program.

The subject, "Motivation of Losing Weight," was taken from the "Choices Is Mine" book.

They said members have to decide that they care enough about themselves to take care of themselves.

Elsie will begin the new year with her contest titled "Hang On."

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

Allegany Dental

Allegany Dental Care remained busy during December.

The staff volunteered to wrap packages for the American Red Cross at Valley Mall, rang the bell for The Salvation Army in front of Pennsylvania Dutch Market in the Long Meadow Shopping Center and Allegany's three offices were drop-off locations for Toys for Tots.

This month, Allegany will hold its fourth annual food drive for Food Resources Inc. Nonperishable food items will be accepted at  the three locations: 19418 Leitersburg Pike (near the Long Meadow Shopping Center and across from the Lyles Center); 22109 Jefferson Blvd. (near Smithsburg); and 17719 Virginia Ave. (near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard). The offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Judy H. and Judy G. led the chapter to a weekly net loss of 21.6 pounds. The chapter welcomed C.K., a new member. Joyce C. won the Ha-Ha box.

Basing her comments on the book "Lose It For Life," Mary contrasted physical hunger with emotional hunger.

Members shared experiences and techniques for dealing with their cravings.

Judy G. will present the program Wednesday.

Superhero Day party

Do you know a pint-sized superhero? The Washington County Recreation Department will host its inaugural Superhero Day Party Saturday, Jan. 15, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Hagerstown Community College's ARCC.

Those 9 years old and younger and their families are invited to don the costume of their favorite superhero and participate in themed activities and games. Participants will take pleasure in balloons, posing for photos with superheroes, spending tokens in the bat cave, getting temporary superhero tattoos and watching a magic show.

Participants will also have an opportunity to swoosh around in the inflatable bounce, spider their way through the giant web and take home party favors.

In addition, the little superheroes will be powered by snacks and drinks. Costumes are encouraged and will be showcased in a parade of superheroes at 3:20 p.m.

Everyone must have a ticket to enter. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets cost $5 for those 9 and younger and $2 for those 10 and older.
