HAGERSTOWN — A Hagerstown man charged with molesting two girls pleaded guilty last week in Washington County Circuit Court to a third-degree sex offense.

Donnie M. Verece, 35, formerly of 11236 Marbern Road, was sentenced by Judge W. Kennedy Boone III to seven years in state prison, with four years suspended and another three years on probation.

Verece also will have to register with the state as a sex offender for 25 years, Boone told him.

In exchange for the plea agreement, another third-degree sex offense count was dismissed, along with two counts each of second-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense, second-degree assault and sexual abuse of a minor, court documents said.

Verece was given 211 days credit for time served since his arrest in May, court records said. He had been in Washington County Detention Center on $350,000 bond.

An investigator with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office went to a Hagerstown woman’s home on May 26 after she reported her 9-year-old had been molested by Verece, according to the statement of probable cause. The girl’s 10-year-old sister also told investigators she had been molested by Verece about two years earlier, the statement said.

In February, Verece pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute marijuana and was given a five-year suspended sentence and three years on probation, court records said.

Verece is scheduled to be back in court Jan. 27 for a violation-of-probation hearing, court records said.
