WILLIAMSPORT — Brandon McCauley, Stephen Christy and Tyler Wise each scored in double figures for the Williamsport boys basketball team Tuesday night as the host Wildcats routed Mountain Ridge 70-37 in the first round of the Richard E. Doub Classic.

Williamsport will play Greencastle-Antrim — a 69-58 winner over Broadfording Christian Academy — in the final tonight at 7.

McCauley got hot early, notching 13 of his 17 points in the first half. He also led Williamsport with five assists.

“We came out a little sluggish,” Williamsport coach Scott Mowbray said. “After we nailed some 3s, we caught fire.”

Christy added 15 points for Williamsport (6-0) and Wise had 12.

“That’s what I like about this team, we have very balanced scoring,” Mowbray said.

The Wildcats took an early lead and never relinquished it. They led Mountain Ridge by 11 after the first quarter and stretched the lead to 20 at halftime.

“Williamsport has a nice team. They’re the team to beat in our region,” Mountain Ridge coach Dave Hobel said. “I like when we play this team because they’re the measuring stick.”

Mountain Ridge (1-3) has struggled with turnovers all season, averaging more than 24 a game. It committed 26 against Williamsport and only managed to score 18 points in the second half.

“Williamsport took it to us; they outplayed us,” Hobel said.

Tyler Whitaker led the Mountaineers in scoring with seven points.

Eric Baymon and Denver Cordell each had a double-double for Greencastle as the Blue Devils upended Broadfording in the first game.

Baymon had 13 points and 11 assists for the Blue Devils, while Cordell had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Neither team could buy a basket in the first quarter but started a scoring frenzy by the second half. Greencastle (7-2) led 28-17 at the half and extended its lead to as many as 19 in the third quarter.

Pete Cradduck led Broadfording (7-5) with 16 points.

Mountain Ridge and Broadfording will play in the consolation game today at 5.
