FREDERICK, Md. — Ray Lee Ashbrook, 49, of Frederick  died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at his home following a hard-fought battle with cancer.  

Born Sept. 21, 1961 in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Wanda B. Snodderly Ashbrook of Hagerstown and the late Bernard L. Ashbrook.  

He was the husband of Sandra L. Ashbrook, with whom he celebrated his 11th anniversary on the day of his death.  

Mr. Ashbrook served in the U.S. Air Force from 1979 to 1982 and was stationed for two years in the Philippines. He was employed with Frederick Air for approximately 10 years.  

He enjoyed golfing and NASCAR.  

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are daughter Tiffany N. Sines and husband James M. of Frederick; stepsons, James W. Russ and wife Lizz of Taneytown and Michael P. Russ of Westminster; grandson James M. Sines Jr.; sister Lucinda J. Reed; brothers, Edward A. and Jeffrey L. Ashbrook; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.  

He was predeceased by a sister, Debra K. Portner.  

The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown, on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 8 p.m. Deacon Charles Barnhart, pastor of Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate.
