HAGERSTOWN — The Hagerstown Police Department is seeking information about a report of shots fired in the first block of Wakefield Road in the city's West End Tuesday night.

Capt. Mark Holtzman said officers didn't find any shell casings on the ground or damage to property when they reached the scene at about 10:30 p.m.

"We didn't locate anything," he said.

A juvenile told police that he saw a man fire a handgun into the air after he got out of a silver car that was being driven by a female, Holtzman said. The shooter then got back into the car, which was driven away, police were told.

Police do not believe the Tuesday night incident was related to a similar incident reported early Saturday in the 100 block of Wakefield Road, Holtzman said.

In that case, police responding to a call at about 3:05 a.m. found numerous shell casings on the ground and bullet holes in a house at 131 Wakefield Road, according to a police department news release issued Saturday.

The resident of the house told police that the shooter, whose identity was unknown, fled on foot. Police said they had no motive for that shooting.

"The police will be doing extra patrols in the neighborhood," Holtzman said. "We'll increase our presence in that area. We're just asking any witnesses to call us and help piece this together."

Holtzman said anyone with information may make anonymous tips by calling 301-790-3700, or by e-mailing
