Holiday closings

The following is a list of holiday closings:



Hagerstown

Hagerstown city offices will be closed in observance of the New Year Holiday on Friday, Dec. 31.

Offices also will be closed on Monday, Jan. 3, for the third of three work-stop days included in the city's budget for fiscal 2011. The work-stop days are being taken to reduce expenditures.

Emergency and continuous operations will remain in effect.



City trash, recycling

Hagerstown officials said that because the New Year's Day holiday is on Saturday, there will be no interruption of normal recycling and trash collection service.



Washington County

Washington County offices and services will be closed on  Friday before and Monday after New Year's Day, with exceptions.

Because New Year's falls on a Saturday this year, Friday and Monday are observed as the holidays.



Transit services

Washington County Transit services — County Commuter bus routes and Paratransit services — will operate on a modified schedule during the New Year holiday period, including:

  • Dec. 31 — All transit services end at 7 p.m.
  • Jan. 1, 2011 — No transit services.
  • Jan. 3, 2011 — The county observes the New Year's Day Holiday, all transit services are closed.
  • Jan. 4 — Normal operations resume.



Landfill

All Washington County landfill locations and transfer stations are closed Friday and Saturday and will reopen on Jan. 3.



Emergency functions

Washington County's essential emergency functions will operate as usual.



Courts

Washington County Circuit Court and Washington County District Court will be closed today and Friday

The Thursday closure is a statewide budget-reduction day. The Friday closure is for the state New Year's holiday.



Chamber of Commerce

In observance of the holidays, the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce will be closed Friday, Dec. 31.



MVA

The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration full-service and express offices will be closed on Thursday Dec. 30 through Saturday, Jan. 1.

All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations also will be closed.

The closures are in observance of the New Year's Day holiday and to comply with a statewide budget-cutting plan.
