Ring in 2011 with the Polar Bear Plunge

The annual Polar Bear Plunge will be New Year's Day at noon at the boat ramp at River Bottom Park in Williamsport as members of the Polar Bear Club and others take a chilly dip into the Potomac River.

Prizes and trophies will be awarded. Warm dressing accommodations will be available for participants, as well as treats for participants and spectators. For more information or to register online, go to www.hswcmd.org.

The event is sponsored by the Williamsport Polar Bear Club, the Humane Society of Washington County and the Town of Williamsport. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

Spectators will be admitted free.

Pork and sauerkraut dinner planned

Calvary Temple, at 147 S. Conococheague St., will serve a pork and sauerkraut dinner on New Year's Day from 4 to 7 p.m.

In addition to the traditional pork and sauerkraut, the menu includes mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, dessert and drink.

Tickets cost $6 for adults and $3 for those ages 3 to 12.

Zumba classes scheduled in area

Four individual Zumba sessions are scheduled at St. Mark's Parish Hall, 18313 Lappans Road. Sessions are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 11, at 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. A single 15-week session costs $30.

A 10-week Saturday session is scheduled at Mount Nebo United Methodist Church Community Hall, 134 S. Main St. in Boonsboro, beginning Saturday, Jan. 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Zumba is exercising to Latin music.

Clothes of Hope schedule for January

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing. It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 6 and 20, Saturday, Jan. 8, and Monday, Jan. 17. It will be open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Mondays, Jan. 10 and 24, and Thursday, Jan 13.

There is no charge for the clothing. Monetary donations are appreciated.

If Washington County schools are closed for inclement weather, the Clothes of Hope will also be closed.
