2 crackers, 6 easy appetizers for New Year's

If you're hosting a New Year's party and are wondering what to feed hungry guests, we've got an "app" for that.

Using a cracker as the canvas, I created bite-sized appetizer versions of a few of my favorite foods under my favorite mantra, "Keep It Simple Stupid."

I used Ritz crackers for the sweet appetizers and pepper and poppy soda crackers for the savory ones. And for a twist, I've added a few other ingredients I've come to enjoy: Thai chili paste and agave nectar. All of these ingredients were available at my local grocery store — no trips to the specialty food store needed.

After all, there's a party to prepare for, right?
