BOONSBORO — Gareth Cole May, 72, of Boonsboro, Md., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at the Meritus Medical Center.  

Born on Nov. 7, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Richard G. May and Eleanor (Cole) May.

He was a 1963 graduate of the University of Maryland.

Mr. May was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Rohrersville, Md.

He was part owner and vice president of Keller-May Plumbing and Heating in Kensington, Md. Mr. May was also instrumental in establishing the McLean School at the Inverness Campus, along with Mr. William P. McClure in Potomac, Md., where he served on the board of directors for many years.

Known by his family and friends as Gary, his interests included tennis, fishing, photography and reading.  

Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joanne May; one daughter, Rebecca L., wife of the late Brian L. Henson; two sons, Scott A. May and Christopher V.B. May; and two sisters, Marcia Hummers and Melinda Blue. Gary is also survived by five grandchildren, Margaret and Curtis Henson, Brandon May, and Chloe and Rocco May.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Md., with the Rev. John W. Schildt officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, Rohrersville MD 21779.
