December 22, 2010

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. — The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who robbed the BB&T Bank at 1111 Winchester Ave. Wednesday evening.

At about 5:15 p.m., County Sheriff Kenneth Lemaster arrived on the scene of a bank robbery in progress at the BB&T branch just outside the Martinsburg city limits, a news release from the sheriff's office said.

Upon arriving at the scene, the sheriff discovered that a man driving a midsize, black pickup truck with an extended cab and a tool box mounted in the back pulled up to the drive-through window and demanded money, the release said.

The teller gave the robber an undisclosed amount of money, and he fled the scene.

He was last seen driving west on Apple Harvest Drive, headed toward Interstate 81, the release said.

The sheriff's office described the suspect as a white male wearing sunglasses, a black ski mask, a black-and-white plaid overcoat, and a rag covering his mouth and forehead.

A special agent from the FBI was notified and responded to the scene, the release said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Mike St. Clair with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office at 304-267-7000.
