The following is a list of holiday closings:
City of Hagerstown
Hagerstown offices will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday on Thursday, Dec. 23, and Friday, Dec. 24. The offices also will be closed in observance of New Year's on Friday, Dec. 31.
City offices also will be closed on Monday, Jan. 3 for the third of three work-stop days included in the city's fiscal 2011 budget. The work-stop days were set up to reduce expenditures.
However, city officials note that emergency and continuous operations will function at all times.
City trash, recycling
Because Christmas and New Year's Day holidays fall on Saturdays this year, there will be no interruption of normal recycling and trash-collection service, city officials said.
Washington County offices and services will be closed on the Friday before and the Monday after Christmas Day, and the Friday before and Monday after New Year's Day, with exceptions.
County government observes Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, as well as New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays. But because Christmas and New Year's fall on Saturdays this year, Friday and Monday are being observed as those holidays.
Washington County Transit services — County Commuter bus routes and Paratransit services — will operate on a modified schedule during the holiday period:
- Dec. 24 — All transit services end at 4 p.m.
- Dec. 25 — No transit services.
- Dec. 27 — The county observes the Christmas holiday, all transit services are closed.
- Dec. 28 — Normal operations resume
- Dec. 31 — All transit services end at 7 p.m.
- Jan. 1 — No transit services.
- Jan. 3 — The county observes the New Year's Day holiday, all transit services are closed.
- Jan. 4 — Normal operations resume.
All Washington County landfill locations and transfer stations are closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25, and open on Dec. 27. They are closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, and open Jan. 3.
Washington County's essential county emergency functions will operate as usual.
Chamber of Commerce
In observance of the holidays, the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce will be closed on Friday, Dec. 24, Monday, Dec. 27, Tuesday, Dec. 28 and Friday, Dec. 31.
All Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration offices are open for business through Wednesday, Dec. 22, and again Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 27-29.
The MVA's full-service and express offices will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 23 through Saturday, Dec. 25, and on Thursday Dec. 30 through Saturday, Jan. 1.
All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations also will be closed.
The closures are in observance of the statewide budget-reduction plan as well as Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.
