CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Dale E. Yoder, 52, of 197 Social Island Road, Chambersburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, in his home.


Born Jan. 20, 1958, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was the son of Robert Creed and Miriam Irene (Bender) Yoder of Greencastle, Pa.


Dale was the director of the Intensive Behavior Management Program of The Arc of Washington County in Hagerstown, Md. In his earlier years, he served as a houseparent with Cedar Ridge Children’s Home in Williamsport, Md.


He graduated in 1976 from Salisbury Elk-Lick High School, received his BA degree in psychology from Cedarville University and his master’s degree in community counseling from Shippensburg University. In 2004, he became a member of the National Board for Certified Counselors. He had also attended Rosedale Bible College in Irwin, Ohio.

He was an active member of Antrim Brethren in Christ Church near Chambersburg, having served on various committees.


Dale served as pastor at Mount Zion Mennonite Church in Boonsboro for two years.


Dale was a former board member of Shalom Christian Academy, former board member of the Franklin Co. Unit of the American Cancer Society, former board member of Camp Andrews and was a member of the board of directors of the Biblical Education Center. He had written several publications and had given numerous presentations in the behavioral-management field.


He was an avid reader of his Bible, and sang or played his baritone horn in various ensembles over the years. He enjoyed hearing his daughters sing and watching them play various sports, and enjoyed announcing the Shalom soccer and basketball games, where he was known as the Voice of the Flames.


He and his wife, Sharon L. (Rowe) Yoder were married June 2, 1979, in Mount Airy, Md.


Surviving family in addition to his parents and wife are three daughters, Stefanie (wife of Dennis) Stauffer, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, and Kristi Yoder and Victoria Yoder, both at home; two sisters, Joy Pressman and Kathy Martin, both of Hagerstown; five brothers, Dwight Yoder, Laurel, Md., Geoff Yoder, Alexandria, Va., Lin Yoder and Larry Yoder, both of Greencastle, and Bob Yoder, Goshen, Ind.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m. from Antrim Brethren in Christ Church, 24 E. Kauffman Road, Chambersburg, with the Rev. Ky R. Searcy officiating. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.


The family will receive friends at Antrim Brethren in Christ Church on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service Wednesday.
