FUNKSTOWN — A man broke a window after punching it during a traffic incident on Baltimore Street in Funkstown Thursday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Caleb Jonathan Beckette, 23, who gave deputies an address of 9522 Garis Shop Road, was charged with driving under the influence, malicious destruction of property less than $500 and second-degree assault, a sheriff's office news release said.

A 21-year-old woman told authorities that a man driving a vehicle cut her off in the area of Martin's on Edgewood Drive.

The woman said the man pulled over at Hoffman's Auto, and she went around him, according to the sheriff's office, which was called to the scene at 1:55 a.m.

The man started tailgating the woman and passed her coming into Funkstown, the release said.

The man stopped suddenly at a yellow light at Baltimore Street, causing the woman to slam on her brakes, the release said.

"He then exited his vehicle, walked back to her car and punched her window, breaking it," the release said.

When deputies arrived, the man had returned, and the woman identified him as the one who assaulted her, the release said.

The sheriff's office said officers noticed that the knuckles on the man's right hand were bleeding, and it appeared he was intoxicated.

The woman was taken to Meritus Medical Center to have glass removed from her eye and for treatments for cuts on her arm, police said.
