CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The Chambersburg (Pa.) Area School Board voted unanimously Thursday to approve an alternate spring trip for the high school marching band.

The board approved a five-day trip to Orlando, Fla., scheduled for March, board President Norman Blowers said.

The band was planning to visit New Orleans, but a 5-4 board vote a few weeks ago canceled that plan.

Blowers said board members found the trip to Orlando more palatable because it didn't have the proximity to Mardi Gras-style events associated with New Orleans.

"This one had total approval of the school board," Blowers said.

The trip will involve about 120 students and 29 chaperones, he said.

Students and parents raise money for the trip, according to Blowers.
