Alfred Eugene Swain, 81, of Maugansville, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Nov. 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Clifford Charles Swain and Mary Delauney Swain.

Gene was a 1947 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1952. After his return from active duty, he worked at Fairchild Industries wiring C-119 aircraft. Gene later became an electrician and worked as a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 307 located in Cumberland, Md., until his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of First Brethren Church in Hagerstown, Md.

Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret; and his brother, Maxwell Leo Swain.

He is survived by his brother Richard L. Swain of Hagerstown; three daughters, Robin Davis of Hagerstown, and Cynthia Weaver and Jennifer Richards of Maugansville, Md.; two sons, Timothy Swain and Gregory Swain, both of Maugansville; five grandchildren, Jesse Weaver of Denver, Colo., Jacob Swain of Clarksville, Va., Lindsay Weaver of Telluride, Colo., and Maxwell Richards and Luke Richards of Maugansville; three great-grandchildren, Coltrane Weaver of Denver, and Camden and Parker Swain of Clarksville.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held at Douglas A.  Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd, Hagerstown, on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Daughtridge officiating.

The burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
