HARRISONBURG, Va. — Ellen Martin of Harrisonburg died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010.

She now rests peacefully in heaven after a four-year battle with cancer. Her faith, along with the prayers of friends and family, provided a wonderful sense of peace throughout her illness.

She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She touched many lives through her friendships and service to others.

Mrs. Martin was born on Dec. 23, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Irvin and Cora Meyers Risser. She served as a home health aide for several years. She enjoyed the work and friendships made while being a dedicated volunteer at Gift and Thrift.

On Jan. 1, 1947, she married Harold Martin, who survives her. Survivors also include a son, Daniel, married to Ruth Ann; a grandson, Jonathan, and his wife, Kate; and a granddaughter, Nicole, and her husband, Zac Stark. She had four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Martin, and Wyatt and Madalyn Stark. She is also survived by one brother, Isaac Risser.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jason. Two sisters, Louise Blosser and Martha Keeler, also preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Weavers Church Cemetery. Pastor Phil Kanagy will conduct a memorial service at Weavers Mennonite Church on Thursday at 11 a.m.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg.
