Boonsboro smothers South Hagerstown

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Ashley Smothers scored a game-high 18 points to lead Boonsboro to a 50-37 win over host South Hagerstown in the MVAL Antietam opener for both teams Monday.

The game was tied 21-21 at halftime before the Warriors (2-1, 1-0) pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Rebels 15-4 in the period.

Alexis Small had a career-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds and three blocked shots for South (0-3, 0-1).

Lacey Beatty had 10 points, four rebounds and three steals and Macey Hollenshead added 11 points for the Indians (1-0, 1-0).

EVERETT, Pa. — Valerie Green had 13 points, but McConnellsburg lost to Everett in its Sideling Hill League opener.

Rikki Green and Libby Strayer each had seven points for the Spartans (2-1, 0-1).

Greencastle 50, Biglerville 49
GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Jenna Crunkleton scored 12 of her 20 points in the first half as Greencastle-Antrim beat Biglerville.

Shea Smothers added 17 points and Chloe Hoover had seven rebounds for the Blue Devils (2-1).

Broadfording 79, Hancock 38
Pete Cradduck had 21 points and Iver Silva had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for Broadfording Christian Academy in a victory over visiting Hancock.

Darren Boone had five rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Lions (6-1).

Jared McCoy had 13 points for the Panthers (0-1).
