Edna Mae Spade, age 79, of Hancock, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Aug. 12, 1931, in Oldtown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Eugene Preston and Edith Twigg Snyder.

She attended Whips Cove Church in Warfordsburg, Pa. She attended public schools in Oldtown. She retired, due to disability, from Londontown Manufacturing in Hancock, where she had worked as a presser. Edna had been a homemaker in recent years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing latch hook.

Surviving are one son, Charles Richard Spade of Salunga, Pa.; one daughter, Barbara Estalene Sparks of Hancock; two sisters, Martha Parker of Oldtown and Betty Powers of Paw Paw; five grandchildren, Michelle Lee Hann of Warfordsburg, Jennifer Nichole Ziler of Hancock, Steven Michael Bradt of Lititz, Pa., Charles Alan Bradt of Reinholds, Pa., and Deanna Lynne Styer of Columbia, Pa.; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lewis Spade on Nov. 17, 2010; one daughter, Deborah Ann Spence; one grandson, Chad Mellott; and two brothers, Carl Snyder and Robert Snyder.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Whips Cove Church, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg, with Pastor Gene Harding and Pastor Freddie Parker officiating. Interment will be in Whips Cove Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Whips Cove Church, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267.
