WILLIAMSPORT, Md. — Raymond D. “Flaps” Palmer, 74, of Williamsport, Md., passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, Md.

Born Oct. 4, 1936, in Williamsport, Md., he was the son of the late Van D. and Thelma Palmer.

Raymond was employed by Western Electric and AT&T, retiring in 1995.

He proudly served his country during the Korean conflict in the United States Army.

He was a member of Mediary Lodge 140 AF&AM, Williamsport; Potomac Fish & Game Club; Potomac Post 202 American Legion, Williamsport; Conococheague Tribe 84 IORM, Williamsport; and Moose Lodge 2462.

He enjoyed playing golf and being with his friends at the clubs.

Survivors include wife, Janet Palmer, married for 44 years, of Williamsport; son, Raymond D. Palmer II of Williamsport; daughter, Diana Sullivan and her husband, James, of Minot, Maine; daughter, Cynthia Piper and her husband, Mitchell, of Manassas, Va.; grandchildren, Hannah Sullivan, Isaac Sullivan and Bryce Piper; sister, Patti Jean Koons and her husband, George, of Hagerstown; and sister, Sonja Hornbaker of Hagerstown.


He was preceded in death by his brothers, Van Dorn Palmer Jr. and Robert Lee “Fritz” Palmer; and sister, Ada Fish.

Services will be at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Concocheague St., Williamsport, on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 7 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Friday for the convenience of family and friends.
