Heritage Academy students compete in district spelling bee

Eight Heritage Academy students participated in the Association of Christian Schools International's District Spelling Bee Nov. 8 at Woodstream Christian Academy in Mitchellville, Md.

Tyler Reese won the eighth-grade bee and placed second in the final spell-off. He will represent Heritage in the ACSI Regional Spelling Bee in February.

Michael Hendershot tied for sixth place in the seventh-grade bee, Chloe Prejean placed 10th in the sixth-grade bee and William Sims placed seventh in the fifth-grade bee. Each grade-level bee had 30 to 41 participants.

Other Heritage students who performed well included Faith Horst, Evan Reese, Hannah Muller and Nathan Patey.

The students correctly spelled the following words: relish, occupy, beechnut, solemn, astonishment, deadline, indirect, observant, astrology, impromptu, complex, advent, demography, presume, unscathed, judging, amplifier, merciful, glorify, authority, emigrate, maize, tonsils, collision, ascensive, storage, submission, colonel, contrivance, fiasco, dulcimer, doldrums, intermission, officiate, autobiographical, fusillade, abhorred, sauerkraut, brethren, sensational, arthropod and reminisce.
