Scott leads Hawks to victory with all-court talents

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Dameatric Scott had 18 points, seven rebounds and six steals to lead Hagerstown Community College past Potomac State 93-66 on Saturday in the second day of the Pepsi Holiday Classic at Allegany College of Maryland.

Scott led six Hawks (12-2) in double figures. Devin Miller had 12 points, Jasmin Handanovic had 11 and D’Quan Lynch, Alister Chisholm and Arthur Hairston each added 10.

Darren Graham had 16 points for Potomac State (8-5).

Shank, Harrell compete

HAVERFORD, Pa. — A pair of North Hagerstown graduates competed for Elizabethtown College at the Haverford Holiday Meet at Haverford College.

Sophomore Taryn Shank was second in the 5,000 in 17 minutes, 50.66 seconds. Freshman Alison Harrell finished sixth in the mile in 5:42.46.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Kiski School 79, Mercersburg Academy 62

SALTSBURG, Pa. — Chall Montgomery scored 25 points and added six rebounds for the Blue Storm in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League loss to Kiski School.

Donyae Jackson added 21 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists for Mercersburg Academy (2-3).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Greencastle 53, Waynesboro 46

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Tache Smothers scored 18 points — eight in the fourth quarter — and Greencastle-Antrim defeated Waynesboro in the consolation game of the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament.

Caitlyn Hoover had 10 points and nine rebounds, while Chloe Hoover added eight points and eight rebounds for the Blue Devils (1-1).

Megan Baker and Dani Miller scored 16 points each for the Indians (0-2).

Woodrow Wilson 60, Hedgesville 55

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Hedgesville dropped a close game to highly touted Woodrow Wilson.

Bianca Creamer led the Eagles (0-2) with 18 points and Tyanna Monette had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Dawnsha Heath led Woodrow Wilson (2-0) with 18 points.

Berkeley Springs 55, Tucker Co. 53

HAMILTON, W.Va. — With point guard Deidra Burch out with flu-like symptoms, Sarah Haynes stepped up with 34 points as the Indians edged Tucker County to remain undefeated.

Haynes made seven 3-pointers and added five steals for Berkeley Springs (5-0).

McConnellsburg wins two games

BELLEVILLE, Pa. — McConnellsburg won twice on Saturday, defeating Mount Union 40-24 and Belleville Mennonite, 34-14.

Nikki Fleming scored 10 points in both games for the Spartans (2-0), while Valerie Green scored 13 against Mount Union.

PREP WRESTLING

Hubs take fourth

ABERDEEN, Md. — North Hagerstown finished fourth at theGolden Eagles Duals, finishing 4-3 and falling to Marriotts Ridge 36-32 in the third-place match.

The Hubs had three wrestlers go 7-0 over the two-day meet: Brendon Colbert at 112, Carter Baer at 135/140 and Kenneth Burrs at 160.

Blue Storm go 2-2

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Host Mercersburg Academy went 2-2 at the Mercersburg Duals. The Blue Storm defeated Martinsburg 48-33 and Sidwell Friends 46-26, but lost to St. Paul’s 55-16 and Georgetown Prep, 47-26.

Arvind Stone (160) and Bobby Burg (171) each went 4-0 with three pins for Mercersburg. Nick Carberry (130) went 4-0 with two pins, John San Fillipo went 3-0 with two pins and Matt Brower (145) and James Hendrickson (152) each had three wins with one pin.

Team scores: Musselman 166, Jefferson 151, Hedgesville 112, Washington 82

Notes: Cameron Dixon won the 200 indvidual medley in 2:17.63 and the 500 freestyle in 5:18.17 for Musselman, which won the meet for the second straight year. Keegan Simmons won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.10 and the 100 butterfly in 57.35 seconds for Jefferson.

Team scores: Jefferson 182, Hedgesville 172, Washington 83, Musselman 78

Notes: Luisa Holland won 500-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle, and Marie DeBuchananne won the 50 and 100 freestyle for Jefferson, which won the meet for the ninth straight year. Sabrina Buhagiar won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke for Hedgesville.

RICHMOND, Va. — Ahmed Latif, Ben Bunjapamai, Otto Bunjapamai, Cris Stanton, Eli Woodworth and Brendan McClintic won matches for the Blue Storm.
