Russell Edward Wishard Jr., 88, of 1641 Langley Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at the Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown.

Born Thursday, May 11, 1922, in Cearfoss, Md., he was the son of the late Russell E. Wishard and the late Edna Mowen Wishard.

He was employed at Fairchild Aircraft, and later retired from Mack Truck in 1984 after 22 years.

Russell was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army for 38 months in the South Pacific.

He was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, VFW Post 1936, and the AARP.


He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Turner Wishard; one son, Jeffrey K. Wishard of Dudley, Pa.; and a brother, W. Ivan Wishard of New Port Richey, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Wishard, Hazel Resh and Hilda, and brothers Eugene and Kenneth Wishard.

Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Edward L. Poling officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14.

Interment will be at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md.
